反拉也是较常见的烫印故障。所谓反拉，是指在烫印后不是电化铝箔牢固地附着在印刷品底色墨层或白纸表面，而是部分或全部底色墨层被电化铝拉走。反拉与烫印不上从表面上看不易区分，往往被误认为烫印不上，但两者却是截然不同的故障，若将反拉判断为烫印不上或烫印不牢，盲目地提高烫印温度和压力，甚至更换粘附性更强的电化铝，则会信得其反，使反拉故障愈发严重。因此必须首先把反拉与烫印不上严格区分开来。区分的简单方法是：观察烫印后的电化铝基膜层，若其上留有底色墨层的痕迹，则可断定为反拉。
产生反拉故障的原因，一是印刷品底色墨层没有子透：二是在浅色墨层上过多地使用了白墨作冲淡剂。
烫印电化铝不同于一般的叠色印刷，它在烫印过程中存在剥离力，这种剥离力要比油墨印刷时产生的分离力大得多。印刷品上的油墨转印到纸面后，只有充分干燥才能在纸面上有较大的附着力，在墨层没有完全干透之前，电化铝烫印分离时的剥离力要远大于墨层的固着力，这样底色墨层使会被电化铝拉走。因此，电化铝烫印工艺要求印刷品表面的油墨层必须充分干透，以保证在其纸面上很好地固着。
操作中常会感到印刷品的深色墨层比淡色墨层容易烫印，这是因为，淡色墨多用白墨冲淡调配而成，由于白墨颜料易浮在表面产生粉化，常用手便可擦掉，这种状况是很难烫印的，电化铝不能被分离下来粘附于纸面，相反，粉化层会被电化铝带走。
预防反拉故障的根本措施，一是掌握印刷品印刷后到烫印电化铝的间隔时间。这就要求印刷时要控制好燥油的加放量，一般在0.5％左右。二要禁止印刷时单独用白墨作冲淡剂，由于白墨的冲淡效果不错，完全不使用是不可能的，折衷办法是，将撤淡剂与白墨混合使用，但白墨的比例应控制在60％以下。
当然，在工艺允许的情况下，为避免反担（包括烫印不上）故障的发生，在底色墨层的烫印部位在制版时就留出空白，使烫印电化铝不与墨层粘合，而与留出的空白粘合。】
